The goal of the UAV Challenge is to demonstrate the utility of Unmanned Airborne Vehicles (UAVs) for civilian applications, particularly in those applications that will save the lives of people in the future. We do this by harnessing the ingenuity and passion of aero modellers, university students and high-school students around the world to develop novel and cost-effective solutions. (

The current challenge is the Medical Express which will take place in Australia in 2016. Team Swiss Fang participated in the previous competition: 2014 Outback Rescue

From 2007 until 2014, the UAV Challenge hosted the competition known as the Outback Rescue Challenge. It was in 2014 when some teams finally completed the challenge. A documentary from 2012 shows how difficult the challenge was and how much effort the teams put into it:
